North Yorkshire Water Park

The kids love water and whats bigger and better than a swimming pool-a lake! We were kindly invited to North Yorkshire Water Park to try out the activities they have on offer-not all of them involve getting wet! What a day-we had an amazing time!!

All the facilities are new, very tidy and clean and there is everything you need! There are changing rooms (men’s, and women’s and family), showers, cafe (serving their own oven baked pizzas and the burgers looked amazing!), loads of picnic tables, wooden play area, ice cream and all the safety gear you need for each activity included. There are safety briefings and all the staff are very knowledgeable and careful to make sure your day is safe as well as fun.

Extra special mention for all the wonderful staff, they were all really friendly and helpful and great with the kids too-they all helped make it a brilliant experience! What an amazing day out!

Aqua Parks

There are three levels of water park fun based on age so everyone gets to try out the inflatable fun!

The “Splash Kingdom” is for children aged 3-7 and is enclosed so the younger ones aren’t actually in the lake.

There are slides on the bouncy inflatable, bridges to crawl over, ropes to climb up and there’s water in the bottom to splash and slide in!

The “Wipeout” and brand NEW “Warrior” obstacle course are more challenging and definitely a greater chance of taking a big splash up in the lake!

One of us did an impressive back somersault at one point! There are obstacle bridges, climbing walls, ladders and huge slides-guaranteed to make big smiles!

The minimum age is 6 years old, you must be over 1.2m tall and able to swim over 50m. (see website for all age limit details)

The park also has other awesome action packed activities!

Zipline

The zip line stretches right across the lakes (250m!!) It starts a climb up the stairs inside the climbing wall tower and lands on the otherside of the lake in a nice soft landing of bark chippings!

There are two zip lines which means you can go down together, and you go over the top of the pedalos below-as we did waving to the people on the zip lines!

Climbing Wall

The smart new Climbing Wall is on the side of the Zip Line tower and is a huge 12m high! There are different routes for different levels of ability (easy, intermediate and hard) and children from 6 years old can take part, great to book just before doing the zipline. There is a safety briefing and an auto belay system in use (all details on their website)

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

These have always looked cool but never had a chance to try it out before! You can hire the boards with or without instruction which is great for novices! A perfect place to try it out under supervision and safe lake conditions!

This was really nice and calm just paddling round the lake, we had two per paddle board (one adult and one child) and there was plenty of space. The boards and the paddles are all new and great quality. Everything is well maintained and in great condition.

This is suitable for those over 6 years old with adult supervision and you get an hour on the lake. You can even hire Giant boards for up to 8 people, I imagine that’s quite tricky to balance!

If you have your own SUP you can also use it on the lake too.

Kayaking

A kayak is a great way to explore the lake! You can hire a single or tandem kayak and they are a comfortable sit on top style kayak.

You can book them for an hours session and is for those over 6 years old with adult supervision.

You can also bring your own kayak to enjoy on the lake!

Pedalos

These are great fun, and ideal for those who maybe don’t quite meet the 6 years age range for some of the other activities! An activity you can all join in together as 4-5 people can fit in one pedalo.

There are even some car shaped pedalos cars and we really enjoyed spotting the fish, dragonflies and bugs as we pedalled round the lake!

There was definitely less pedalling from the smaller legs but it didn’t matter as the lake and it’s surroundings are really picturesque and really leisurely.

Mini Electric Ships

These are another fun option for the younger members of your group! You get to choose the boat you would like to “sail” around the lake from a lifeboat to a navy ship! These boats can hold up to 4 people. The boats are electrically powered, no pedalling required on these ones!

Around The Lake

There is a track around the lake which you can walk, run, bike, for a stretch out after all the fun on, over and in the lake!

On The Lake

Wake boarding- you can learn to wakeboard from trained instructors or if you are experienced you can practice your cool jumps and tricks! There is a 240m line that extends across the lake with wakeboarders riding on a short, wide board being towed by a cable and motorised pulley system.

Sailing- you can organise taster or improver lessons on the parks toppers or bring your own boat to the lake.

Open water swimming – there is a 250m circuit on the lake which averages at about 17 degrees. Sessions are timetabled and lifeguarded if you fancy keeping fit whilst enjoying the lake!

Fishing – If fishing is your sport, North Yorkshire Water Park has three well stocked fishing lakes only a short walk from the Water Park lake. There is a trout lake, coarse lake and predator lake and well stocked with a large variety of fish. The settings all around the fishing lakes are really beautiful and would be a lovely place to while a water a day fishing!

There is so much to do here for a full family day out! It would be advisable to book time slots for each of the activities you wish to do and leave a slot for lunch too. All the facilities at North Yorkshire Water Park are new and well maintained and the staff are so friendly and welcoming-a really great and different day out!
